Energetic Eighteen

Dear Shreyu-baby,

1.5 years already and now I know time surely flies when you are having fun and believe me sweetheart, these 18 months were nothing but a dream for all of us. A little bud blossomed into a flower in front of us without our own realization. I still remember how I was scared to hold you in my hands for the fear of hurting your and I had these terrible phobia for a month that you may trip over from my hand. And how I did not know how to burp you after your feed and how I used to freak out when you nanny used to oil-massage you roughhousing in all mad direction and when I used to hold your oily-slippery body during bath.

Time surely has passed and now I know why babies this age fool their parents into having more children..LOL. This is a superb age and trust me we all are equally enjoying your ever increasing skills and independence as much as you are doing.
Its seems like some magic to see you achieve one milestone after another. Now that you have twelve little teethes, I cannot imagine how there was none one day. And now that you run, I cannot imagine how we waited for you to turn, to roll, to sit and to crawl.

Last month we met a friend's 6 months old baby and your reaction to see such small baby right in front of you was hilarious. Even our initial reaction was "OMG, such a small baby and this was how Shreya looked exactly a year back". And now with a flick of second, you have grown up to be a super-active toddler - running, screaming, blabbing non-stop, throwing tantrums, pretending acts, sudden cuddle - yes, all this in a mere span of 1 year time.

You are surely on a cuteness overdrive and making people go "awww" with your naughty eyes and smiles where ever we go. It's been like a thousand times we have heard from people to refer you in an advertising agencies or for baby postures/magazines. Hee hee..well, we haven't given any thought on that and would leave it to you to choose your profession.

Here goes some of your recent activities which is keeping all of us busy:

- You have now started constructing 2-word sentences and new words get added to your dictionary almost everyday. You now have a name for almost everything, some of which are extremely cute to hear and with your growing list of words, I can’t even remember all of them. Of late, I have noticed that you are trying to interact with me and share your experience on things that caught your attention. I am excited dear and is looking forward to the day when both of us can share our heart out with each other.

- Your fascination for electronics extends itself to constantly plugging/unplugging and switching off/on until your hassled mom pulls you in the fear of getting electrification. And to add to your fondness for electronic gadgets, you still continue to swallow your food with your eyes stuck to rhymes being played in "you-tube" and that too some of selected ones only. And not to forget, any girlie character that you see either in book or in TV gets or in your rhymes gets addressed as "Sheyaa" (Shreya) by you. Your loyalty towards "ARKO" (a Bengali music band) reflects when you demand to hear a particular song again and again the moment you step in the car. Dear, there is an ocean of good music around and spare us from listening to the same song every time we board the car.

- You LOVE numbers - much to my satisfaction and pride! And you have started writing them out and that too in my walls...sob sob.
Your counting skill has extended until twenty, which is a great achievement in itself. If I say ‘One’, you say ‘Two’ and then continues sometime uptil TEN and sometime uptil TWENTY and you ensure to make yourself hear as you almost scream the last number.
If only I could introduce you to differentiation and integration concepts !! Ok,. I should keep a check on my ambitions right now!

You have also picked-up 1-10 count in Bengali and that sounds extremely cute when you start with "Ek, Dui...etc".
The other day, when we took a ride uptil petrol bunk, you started shouting "iks..iks..iks" as soon as we entered the bunk and later I realised that you were actually pointing out the counter no. (which was 6) where I had parked my vehicle. Great observation, dude!

- You have also started recognising colour and as of now your world consists of "Piik" (pink), "bloo"(blue), "eeloo"(yellow), "yite"(white), "geen"(green). Yes, our list ends here and all the colour that you can think off gets accommodated within the list, simple isn't it?

- Another ‘activity’ that you like is enacting with the rhymes. Your current fav being "Hop a little", "One Two", "Head shoulder", "Twinkle twinkle", "Baa baa", "Ten little" to name a few. Extremely cute actions and I would love to watch you doing them through-out the day.

- Recently you have started using the word "sooyee"(read sorry) for almost everything that you do not want to do or have negative response to. Looks like someone had replaced "No" with the word "Sorry" in your system.

- You take after me in many ways and some of them are pretty evident and one among them is love for animal, specially puppies. Days are not far when you would be demanding to adopt one. Well, Momma is also crazy about this particular four-legged creature and longing to have one.

- You are surely going through a growth spurt and entering your ‘Terrible Twos’. And it is pretty evident from the tantrums that you throw these days. Your frustration levels are increasing and in case you are not able to do something that you wish to do on your own, you scream your heart out. So looks like "Terrible Twos" is approaching us in a rather alarming rate.

But besides all these, if there were one word I had to use to describe you, I would say you are "RADIANT". You radiate positiveness and good will and your mere presence has brighten up our life beyond words. We never realized since when we started loving you so much....probably much before you were born.

Happy 18, Shreya!
You surely rock. Have fun. Cheers!

Love,
Mimme
