Nineteenth aka twentieth month letter
Dear Shreya,
The other day during your meal time we were watching a video where eventually the bird gets hurt. Nothing major but you got very senti over that. I laughed it out but strangely enough you reacted the same way when we watched the video couple of weeks later. I was about to laugh at you again but suddenly realized that perhaps the thought of the imaginary bird getting hurt is disturbing you and my heart went out thinking how sensitive and innocent these kids can be. I realized that while you are too young to even ask what happened later to that injured bird, at some level you understand that it is not a good thing. You are such a sensible child, sweetheart.
20 months already and you are such a lovely, beautiful and happybaby toddler (touch- wood). Believe me the ride gets funner with each passing month.
Out of all things that I love about you, I love best the way you laugh. You have a very infectious laughter that seems to come from the core of your being. You don't like being tickled, though, unless the doer of the deed is someone you can't let down.
Your kisses are precious because only the blessed few gets them (the rest can count their blessings) and that too on some special time of the day. Mimme gets mouth wide open, saliva dripping kisses with biggg bear-hugs saying "Amar Mimme" during bed-time, Pappa gets those sloppy kisses during bathe-time (Did I ever mention that Pappa is your official bath-time partner?) and Mani (this is what you love calling your Nanny) gets it before the evening park-time.
You have started talking (read blabbing) pretty nonstop these days although you have been talking in sentences since 18 months. Only difference is that the sentences are coming fast and furious now. 'Okay, fine' (mentioned in this post), 'Thankuu' (mentioned here), 'soyii' (sorry), 'plizzz Mimme', 'bye, see u', 'Hello Aunty/Uncle/Dadu', 'aascho - come come', 'boscho - sit down' being the topmost ones.
You love rhymes and more when someone is doing action along with that. You give the cutest smile at the end and say "abaar" (again). Hard to believe that you now know almost all the rhymes from your book and some bengali ones too.
Counting everything is your new obsession - maan(one), too(two), thee(three) uptil twenty and ek, dui uptil bissh (bengali numeric). A huge round of 'clap-clap' needs to follow once you loudly announce twenty (or Bissh in Bengali) and we all need to clap.
A for Apple - Z for Zebra is in your finger-tips these days, isn't it?
New inclusions are the shapes that got added in your dictionary. You can now recognise circle, Triangle, Rectangle, Square and Heart shape.
Jan-Dec and Mon-Sun are something being worked on hard these days.
On being asked "What is your name?", you reply "Sheya Dhorrr".
I just can't get over it. How did you learn all these things, girl? Who taught you? I never hired anyone, I swear.
Your love for the outdoors is becoming more pronounced and we spend roughly a total of two hours everyday in park and you very cutely say "bye, see u" to the swing once done.
You love the swings at the park. Every park visit starts with half-hour at the swings and sometimes more than that. It's the only time you are quiet - blessedly, blessedly quiet.
Books continues to be your first love. And writing is your newly acquired passion and I was thrilled to see that you can hold the pencil pretty well. This is not enough and you gave us anothersurprise shock by writing the numeric one and two pretty readable the other day. I almost screamed with joy. From then, there is no looking back. You got better and better and this is definitely a great accomplishment this month - both for you as well as for us. All excited, Pappa went ahead and bought a black-board for the junior scholar and you are excited as well as busy since then, to say the least. But this has a down side too and my once-upon-a-time bright red couch is no longer red these days but all marked white in chalk. But do I care anymore? No way. **with a big sigh**
If I give you my hairbrush, you will try and brush your hair with it. You know that a toothbrush goes in mouth and every morning you get desperate to grab that by screaming "teeth teeth". You also know how to use the foot scrubber and know how to paint nails and apply ipis (lipstick) and put 'tii' (bindi) and to apply perfume and when to wear 'sokom' (sun glass. God know how u gave that name) and even know the fact that straightener is for hair-dressing. Need I say anything more. Huh!
I think you know that you are approaching the two year mark, too. Why else would you look down at the baby in the mall and declare 'small baby' in an attitude of a teenager?
Hold on. Don't grow so fast, baby **sniff sniff**
Other than that, I am still swinging wildly between wonder at where the time went and deciding that you are wayyyyy too young to be sent to playschool on your own anytime in the near future (thank goodness that is still one year away).
Next month, we will reach more close to two years mark!
OMG, I am shaking my head in disbelief.
That's all for this time then. Whatever you decide to do in the coming months, just have fun, sweetheart.
Love
Mimme
**Your Lazy Mommy has combined 19th and 20th month letter where in fact you are yet to complete your 20th month. But does that really matter?**
