Kerala - an affair to remember

The journey started off on Thursday evening and we were excited as well as nervous at the same time because this was Shreya's first over-night train journey.
Boarded the train from Banaswadi station, the train was unexpectedly well-maintained and clean. Shreya was at her best, although she had slight melt-down in between her sleep as the space was not enough for her. Overall the journey was fun and we reached Kottayam next day morning at around 9:15am.

I had to take this pic as a memoir of Shreya's first over-night train journey
Hired a taxi and off to Kumarakom. As cliched as it may sound, this place is out of the world. They say that Kerala looks best during monsoon. You have to see it to believe this.
It is tranquil, serene-- a piece of paradise, right here on earth.

After a brief stay at this place, we headed towards Alleppey.
The resort (Pozhiyoram Beach Resort) we stayed felt like a paradise. The word 'Idyllic' comes alive when you set foot there. Our cottage was a cozy one with 2 bedroom and a long stretch of varandah overlooking the sea. It would not be an over-statement if I say that I could feel the vibration of the waves sometimes, right from my bed.

Lazying in hammock was so much hit

The tall coconut trees, the cool sea breeze, the vast open space of the resort, the cozy hammock and the gigantic sea just outside the resort. It is nature at her best and you cannot help but succumb to her charms.
She had a gala-time exploring every nook and corner of the resort

The sea was tempting and we could not resist but go for a round of beach-time as soon as we landed there. Evening sunset was amazing and so was our camel ride.

And our first camel ride together
You forget every single thing when you are in the water. The roar of the waves, the sun setting down slowly by the sea, the sand castle, a hot cup of tea with some badam, the kid running around with joy - it is a totally different world.

It was Shreya's first beach vacation and you can make out how much  'wow'-ed she is

Night after the kid slept, all of us again went to the beach and then just lazied around in the resort hammock. S and me just talked, laughed and felt recharged. It was food for our souls.

Next day, all recharged after the morning sunrise and a mouth-water breakfast that the resort served, we headed for the house-boat tour. Booked the tour from the resort in order to avoid the rush. Here is the glimpse of the 2 bedroom houseboat that we rented for the day.

Isn't she beautiful?
Miles and miles of gentle waterways glistening in the sunlight with peaceful countryside and paddy field as far as the eye can see. How truly uplifting for the soul it is.
Family bonding. This is what vacations are for, isn't it?
Water cruise is not new to us. We had been to 5 night Star cruise tour couple of years back but the experience from that is very different from this one. What made it truly memorable was the fact that we were totally in charge of the boat. We all took turns driving the boat. It is the first time in my life I was handling a boat. It was truly  a marvellous experience to 'park' the boat and explore the land, have the 3 course Kerala style lunch by the lake and then sail away again.

The houseboat trip is a trip that everyone must do, once in a lifetime. No wonder Kerala is among the 'top ten destination to see before you die'. Take my word, you will not regret it.
